Some photographers see rain in the forecast and immediately think about rescheduling.


Tracy and I get excited.


When we met Shane and Trisha for their engagement session in Frederick, the skies were dark, the sidewalks were wet, and dramatic storm clouds rolled across the sky over downtown Frederick.


Instead of running from the weather, we embraced it. What followed turned into one of the most romantic and memorable engagement sessions Tracy and I have photographed in Frederick.


Sometimes the most beautiful photographs happen when you simply lean into the moment.

Beginning the Session at Baker Park


We began the evening at Baker Park, one of our favorite engagement photography locations in Frederick.


The rain had just passed through, leaving the stone walkways glistening and the trees glowing with fresh spring color. The overcast sky created incredibly soft light—nature’s version of a giant softbox.


As Shane and Trisha walked along the paths together, Tracy and I watched them relax into the moment. They laughed, held each other close, and completely forgot about the weather.


One of our favorite photographs happened right here when Shane dipped Trisha for a kiss along the wet walkway. The reflections on the stones created a beautiful texture that made the image feel almost cinematic.o make more changes.

Wandering Through Historic Downtown Frederick


From Baker Park we made our way toward the historic brick streets near Shab Row.


Downtown Frederick has so much character, and when the rain hits those red brick streets, the colors deepen and the atmosphere becomes incredibly romantic.


Shane and Trisha strolled hand in hand through the quiet streets while Tracy and I photographed them from different angles, capturing natural moments of laughter and connection.


Having two photographers allows us to capture both the big moments and the subtle ones that often happen in between.

Reflections Along Carroll Creek


One of the most iconic locations in downtown Frederick is Carroll Creek Park.


The bridges that cross Carroll Creek create beautiful lines and framing for engagement photos, and after a rainstorm the puddles and reflections add even more depth to the images.


Tracy spotted a perfect reflection in one of the puddles along the brick walkway, and we used it to create one of the most creative images of the session.

Sometimes those little details are what make a photograph truly unique.

A Surprise Rainbow Over Frederick


Just when we thought the weather had already given us enough drama for the evening, something incredible happened.


A rainbow appeared across the sky over downtown Frederick.


We quickly grabbed an umbrella and positioned Shane and Trisha between the historic brick buildings while the rainbow stretched across the clouds behind them.


Moments like this are the kind photographers dream about, and they simply can’t be planned.

The Moment That Made the Evening Unforgettable


As the evening continued along Carroll Creek, Shane had one more surprise planned.


With the soft light fading and the creek quietly flowing nearby, Shane got down on one knee and proposed to Trisha.


Tracy and I quietly photographed the moment as Trisha realized what was happening. Her reaction was pure joy and surprise—exactly the kind of authentic emotion that makes photography so meaningful.


Of course, she said yes.

Many couples worry when they see rain in the forecast for their engagement session, but sessions like this remind us why Tracy and I actually love photographing in these conditions.

Instead of ruining a session, it often adds atmosphere, emotion, and storytelling to the images.
